Philipps Universität Marburg Department of Chemistry + LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology
In the group “Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry of Microorganisms” of Prof. Dr. Peter Graumann, which is part of SYNMIKRO and the Department of Chemistry (Biochemistry) at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, we are seeking an applicant for a 50 % position as a Research assistant (position for PhD qualification) The position is part of the CRC 987 and is free as soon as possible until 30.06.2020. Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 50 %). The position is limited to the period which is adequate to the duration of the qualification period. Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to § 2, 1, 1 Wis-sZeitVG.The project is part of the Collaborative Research Center 987, which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The groups of the CRC deal with genetic and cellular an-swers of microorganisms to environmental changes. The project of Prof. Graumann is focused on the genetic, biochemical and cytological analysis of the transfer of conjugative plasmids through bacterial population and the influence of plasmids on the physiology of the cells, which can be changed considerably by the activity of a plasmid. Part of the tasks will be the microscopic tracking of the transfer of plasmids through bacterial biofilms, the genetic research of the communication between plasmids and host-chromosome and the analysis of signal networks that are influenced by the plasmid. The applicant is required to have a Master degree in Biology or Biochemistry and should be knowledgeable in work with microbiology. She/he should have some experience with bio-chemical, genetic or physiological methods with microorganisms. We are seeking a PhD student who is enthusiastic about science, has good basic knowledge in biochemistry and who has the ability to work in a team. We expect the research assistant to participate in trainings and to supervise interns in the laboratory. It is an advantage if the applicant has knowledge about fluorescent microscopy and experience in dealing with Bacillus subtilis. Informal project enquiries should be sent to Prof Dr. Peter Graumann under peter.graumann@synmikro.uni-marburg.de. We support women and strongly encourage them to apply. In areas where women are un-derrepresented, female applicants will be preferred in case of equal qualifications.
