University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE)
The Hamburg research consortium "Biomedical Physics of Infection" Infectophysics aims to connect innovative biophysical methods available at the Campus of the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY) with research questions in infection biology and medicine (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE)). The goals are to: 1. visualize the structure and dynamics of medically important pathogens and their interactions with human structures in high spatial and temporal resolution 2. create ideas for novel therapeutic approaches against antibiotic resistant bacteria through time-resolved structural biology 3. apply innovative biophysical techniques in infection biology and immunology 4. form and propagate an interdisciplinary research cluster for 1-3 Job description We are looking for post-doctoral and PhD candidates to: - characterize structural and functional properties of protein secretion systems in pathogenic mycobacteria - establish virus assembly in vitro for time resolved high resolution imaging - develop and improve electronic microscopy in solution to record large macromolecular pathogen complexes in action - express and crystallize proteins for advanced time resolved imaging using novel X-ray technologies on DESY Campus - develop bio-nanoelectronic methods to measure cell activation patterns For further information please visit our homepage www.infectophysics.org Position details - The positions will start on 15 January 2018 - All the positions are available for 3 years with possibility for extension - The positions will be paid in accordance to the German Public Services Regulations TV-L (PhD E13 (65%), Postdoc E13) - In case of equal qualification, people with disabilities will be given preference Candidate requirements - a PhD or Master degree in a relevant field such as microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, physics, biophysics, structural biology, nanotechnology - strong motivation in developing and applying novel biophysical techniques for biological and infectious disease-related questions - excellent language skills in English Please send your application as a single pdf file of max. 2 MB only via email to a.sydow@uke.de Deadline of the application: 19 November 2017
