Since it's release, the first edition of Human Molecular Genetics has become the standard reference source for over 27.000 individuals and is widely used as an undergraduate teaching text around the world. However, in the intervening period since its publication in 1996, there have been a number of significant changes in our understanding of the principles described in the book. The second edition, whilst retaining the well-regarded structure of the first edition, addresses these by incorporating a wealth of new data and features.
Contents DNA structure and gene expression Chromosomes in cells Genes in pedigrees Cell-based DNA cloning Nucleic acid hybridization assays PCR, DNA sequencing and in vitro mutagenesis Organization of the human genome Human gene expression Instability of the human genome: mutation and DNA repair Physical and transcript mapping Genetic mapping of mendelian characters Genetic mapping of complex characters Genome projects Our place in the tree of life Identifying human disease genes Molecular pathology Genetic testing in individuals and populations Cancer genetics Complex diseases: theory and results Studying human gene structure, expression and function using cultured cells and cell extracts Genetic manipulation of animals Gene therapy and other molecular genetic-based therapeutic approaches Glossary Index. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?call=bv.View..ShowTOC&rid=hmg.TOC&depth=1
