Sonometrics Corporation manufactures scientific research (non-clinical) data acquisition systems that feature our patented Digital Sonomicrometer technology for use in scientific applications.
Physiological data such as segment lengths, volume, and shape change information can be acquired with our systems in addition to other physiological measurements such as pressure, ECG, blood flow, etc.
Our data acquisition systems are used in cardiac research labs to measure cardiac compliance, wall motion, wall thickness, pressure-volume loops, valve motion and papilary muscle function. These parameters can be measures in animals ranging from rodents to horses. Our data analysis software is used to perform beat-by-beat analysis on cardiac data and can calculate many complex parameters from the data.
Our systems are also used in gastro-intestinal, bladder, and biomechanics research where morpho-metric (shape-change) information is highly valuable (GI motility, bladder volume and regional contractility, joint, tendon, and skeletal muscle mechanics). In this capacity, our systems have been used to measure the mechanical properties of seaweed, the energetics of hummingbird flight muscles, and the strike behavior of fish (just a few examples).
