The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF), an independent private foundation, recently announced a new grant opportunity: Innovation Awards in Functional Genomics. The stated goal of the program is to accelerate the integration of the vast amount of genomic sequence and expression data being generated into functional and clinically relevant information that will yield insights into mechanisms of human disease.

BWF has committed $3 million to support 8 to 20 awards to be offered in two areas: 1) animal model development and 2) computational methods development. The application deadline is December 1, 1999.
