Researchers discover new mechanism that targets and destroys abnormal DNA

HHMI researchers have identified a new mechanism that cells use to recognize and destroy messenger RNA (mRNA)that contains errors. Although this is a normal RNA-surveillance mechanism, the researchers suggest that it might interfere with some drug treatments for cystic fibrosis and other genetic diseases.
