Ronen Segman of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem and colleagues studied 86 families with children diagnosed with ADHD. They found a significant association between a variation in the gene for the immune system protein interleukin-1 (IL-1) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The study was published in Molecular Psychiatry. Press coverage in the New Scientist, Jan 08, 2002.
