Food Transporter Sanitation and Traceability Standards: Controls, Record Keeping and Liability

  August 08, 2012

ComplianceOnline, Online Event
2012-08-17

Why Should You Attend:

With the government moving to electronic food traceability requirements, the pressure will be on to comply at all levels in the food supply chain and the transporter group and those that hire them will find increasing government pressure to assure protection from adulteration. The Sanitary Cold Chain has recently developed standards and procedures designed to lead toward transporter container sanitation and traceability certification as a means of meeting FDA and customer requirements.

This session is designed for any food industry supply chain players who rely on transportation delivery controls. Air Cargo, trucking, rail, freight forwarders and shippers are key players in the transportation of temperature and humidity controlled goods and can benefit financially from offering value-added sensor technology to their service packages. The session will cover strategies to provide sanitary real-time cold chain temperature tracking and traceability at the pallet and container levels. The goal is to help the supply chain avoid liability and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and to describe some of today's technology that is capable of providing a systematic real-time anytime/anywhere approach to knowing the temperature of shipped goods and sanitary condition of the shipping containers.

Areas Covered:

  • Some Definitions.
  • Food Safety Modernization Act (food handling, transportation).
  • Import, local and exporting foods.
  • International food safety and temperature controls.
  • Transporter Standards.
  • The farm to retail supply chain stream.
  • Temperature tracking sensors that communicate via RFID.
  • GPS tracking to provide the "ANYWHERE" data and GSM to communicate ANYTIME.
  • Real-Time cold chain traceability approaches.
  • Return on investment (ROI) issues.
  • Plastic pallets: costs, weight, recycling, cleaning, food safety.
  • Continuous improvement controls.
  • Pallet versus Container tracking.
  • Continuous improvement controls.
  • How the system can be designed to provide anytime/anywhere alerts, trends and status.
