14th International Congress International Society for Aerosols in Medicine
  February 08, 2003

Pharmacology and Toxicology

Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland USA
June 14-18, 2003

TARGET AUDIENCE

Aerosol scientists and physicists, pulmonary physicians, mathematicians, pharmaceutical company representatives, respiratory therapists and nurses, and government regulatory scientists

OVERVIEW

The Congress of the International Society for Aerosols in Medicine (ISAM) is a biennial meeting that provides an opportunity for aerosol scientists from around the world to report on recent advances in the field and to interact and share new knowledge. ISAM members have a special interest in aerosols as: (1) a delivery system for medication; (2) pollutants or pathogens that have toxic effects; and (3) a tool to study basic structural and functional phenomena of the lung. The 14th ISAM Congress will feature important new information in all of these areas.
Following this program, participants should be able to:
  1. Discuss the latest developments in systemic, aqueous and pMDI delivery of aerosolized medications
  2. Cite the latest information concerning the health effects of ambient air particulate matter (PM), ultrafine particles, aeroallergens and bioaerosols
  3. Summarize the current regulatory viewpoints regarding bioequivalence for nasal and pulmonary drug delivery, aqueous delivery systems with and without drugs and the immunogenicity of inhaled drugs
  4. Evaluate the current thinking in terms of delivering aerosolized medications to infants and children and of delivering aerosols by intranasal administration
  5. Describe the newest in vitro models that are being used to predict in vivo aerosol delivery and deposition
  6. Explain the latest developments for improving mucociliary clearance in cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases
