Cardiovascular Radiation Therapy V and Restenosis Forum
  January 02, 2001

Cardiovascular Research

Cardiovascular Research Institute, Washington, DC USA
February 5 -7, 2001

Conference Description

Cardiovascular Radiation Therapy is the largest international symposium designed for physicians, physicists, biologists, and other healthcare professionals with a special interest in the field of radiation therapy for the prevention of restenosis. New for 2001, the Restenosis Forum, a parallel symposium, will focus on the mechanisms of restenosis, new therapies and clinical trials that may provide an alternative to vascular brachytherapy in the elimination of restenosis.

It is our intent that the varied format will provide the attendee with a unique well-rounded experience, encompassing a complete understanding of all factors that make up the field of vascular brachytherapy.

A renowned faculty of experts from around the world who are leaders in both the radiation and restenosis fields will discuss mechanistic issues, clinical controversies, and current experiences both in animal models and in clinical patient treatment settings.

Special Satellite Meetings
§ Task Force Group on Vascular Brachytherapy
§ Intravascular Ultrasound and Dosimetry Workshop
§ Histomorphometry
§ Microscopic and Macroscopic Sessions with the Pathologist
§ Molecular Biology and Angiogenesis
§ Vascular Brachytherapy for Nurses and Technologists
§ Radiation Biology and Restenosis
§ Radiation Physics
§ Radiation for the Cardiologist
§ Cardiovascular Brachytherapy for the Radiation Oncologist
§ Drug Coated Stent Workshop

Conference Format
§ Didactic lectures providing up-to-date information on the current status and future direction of vascular brachytherapy
§ Live case demonstrations allowing for a complete understanding of the implementation of different devices associated with the field
§ Satellite meetings and workshops providing smaller settings to interact directly with faculty
§ Panel discussions to provide a broad range of information from multiple experts.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
§ Comprehend the basic principles behind vascular brachytherapy, including a general understanding of all disciplines involved
§ Identify the mechanisms associated with the development of restenosis
§ Acquire knowledge pertaining to the progress and results of multiple clinical trials involving brachytherapy
§ Recognize the clinical implementation of utilizing different isotopes in various systems, including radioactive stents, liquid and gas-filled balloons, and other evolving systems in the field.

Target Audience
This conference is intended for physicians with a special interest in the field of radiation therapy for the prevention of restenosis. It will also be appropriate for physicists, biologists, and other healthcare professionals with an interest in this field.
