Course Description
In this 90 minute accredited training course participants will learn the mechanism of how traditional preservatives work and the requirements for a good preservative. They will explore the criticism of many traditional preservatives. They will survey the global regulatory and certification landscape. New preservatives, the use of glycols, essential oils, and novel synergistic mixtures will be examined. Green chelates will be added to the formulator’s toolbox. New concepts such as water activity and hurdle technology will be introduced.

Invited Speakers:
   Steve Herman, President, Diffusion LLC

Steve Herman is President of Diffusion LLC, a consulting firm specializing in regulatory issues, intellectual property, and technology development. He has been an Adjunct Professor in the FDU Cosmetic Science Program since 1993, teaching the Cosmetic Formulation Lab and Perfumery. Steve was a columnist for GCI Magazine for 17 years and has written a book, Fragrance Applications: A Survival Guide. His SCC activities include service as Chairman of the NY Chapter in 1992 and 2013, election to Fellow status in 2002, and instructor in the Continuing Education Program.
