Who Should Attend?
The course is intended for professionals working with fired process heaters in the petroleum, petrochemical, chemical and allied industries and would be especially valuable to

  • Process Designers
  • Process Engineers
  • Maintenance Personnel
  • Operators
  • Those involved in design, retrofitting and specification 

Course Description
This one-day course will deal with real-life scenarios in refineries that the practicing engineer deals with. Several case studies will be presented emphasizing aspects of high importance; e.g., like safety/consequences, environmental/ NOx emissions, combustion/efficiency and tube temperature/ coking effect.

The course will begin with a summary of the background information that the participants will need to be familiar with to go over the case studies. The case studies will be problemsolving sessions that the participants will attempt to do on their own, followed by group discussions whereby we will solve the problems together.

There will be opportunities to bring up new/related problems for discussion. Some of the class-time will be dedicated to discussing issues of importance to the participants.

Jamal Jamaluddin Ph.D.; Advisor, Combustion & Heat Transfer Engineering, Retired, Shell Oil Company

Jamal Jamaluddin retired from Shell in October, 2014 as Advisor, Combustion and Heat Transfer Engineering. In that capacity, he has been responsible for the design, trouble-shooting and performance improvement of; and the development and application of operational best practices, and project support for; fired equipment within Shell. He has been active in R&D activities that introduced several new technologies to Shell manufacturing sites; and has contributed to the development of Shell’s internal Heat Transfer Equipment course which he also has taught at Shell and several 3rd party sites.

Dr. Jamaluddin has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Newcastle in Australia. He served as the Chairman of API Sub-Committee on Heat Transfer Equipment (SCHTE) from January 2010 till December 2012.
