  • Management
  • Inspection Engineers
  • Water Treatment Engineers

Course Description
Corrosion resistance of materials is frequently a decisive factor in the development of advance technology as encountered in power generation, energy conversion, environmental protection techniques, and numerous industrial processes operating under severe corrosion environments. The general aim of this course is to provide a basic understanding of corrosion mechanisms and the methods used in corrosion control and prevention. To convey this in a proper perspective, the entire course offers a unified treatment of corrosion fundamentals with the practice of corrosion engineering.

There will be in-depth coverage of electrochemical principles of metallic corrosion, discussion of various corrosion mechanisms, methods of corrosion control, high temperature corrosion, degradation of polymers and ceramics, and the selection of metallic, organic and ceramic materials. Each section of the course includes industrial problems of the subject material using case studies of practical engineering problems. Discussion of engineering problems along with corrosion science, results in an integrated approach to providing solutions to corrosion engineering problems from a wide variety of industries.

You are invited to bring your corrosion problems to the course for detailed discussion.

Organized by: CfPA-The Center for Professional Advancement
Invited Speakers:
Colin F. Britton; Independent Corrosion Consultant

Colin F. Britton is an independent corrosion consultant. Mr Britton has over sixty years experience in corrosion activity ranging from nuclear corrosion research (carried out at the Harwell Laboratory of the UK Atomic Energy Authority) to problem solving in industrial plants on a worldwide basis. His work has involved corrosion audits of plant, corrosion control systems corrosion failure analysis, corrosion monitoring/inspection and design for offshore oil and gas projects.

Mr. Britton joined the Non-Destructive Testing Centre (set up in 1966 at the Harwell Laboratory arising from industrial corrosion problems related to the inspection and monitoring of corrosion damage. He was a member of the Secretariat for the ‘Hoar’ Inquiry (reported in 1970) commissioned by the UK Government to examine, (a), the cost of corrosion damage in the UK, and, (b), existing facilities for the training of corrosion engineers and incorporation of corrosion training in other training disciplines.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) in the UK and is a member of NACE International (the US based Corrosion Association) He is a NACE registered ‘Corrosion Specialist’ (No 14965) and a NACE Registered Instructor for the NACE Basics training course... He is a past Chairman of both the ICorr/NACE Task Group on Corrosion Monitoring and the NACE UK Section Board.

Colin Britton is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has published many papers on corrosion control and engineering and has lectured widely on these subjects. He authored the chapter ‘Corrosion Monitoring & Inspection’, in all editions of the four-volume textbook, ‘CORROSION edited by Dr L.L.Shreir et al., published by Elsevier (UK).
