Asset Management 101 for Public Infrastructure - Planning to Implementation

Asset management for public infrastructure is critical for quality of life and economic prosperity of any nation. An efficient asset management practice is required to obtain the best value from the limited resources. It is challenging for infrastructure service providers to meet the growing demand with existing old infrastructure. There are two fold benefits of asset management. The first is to extend the service life of existing assets. The second is to reduce the cost and risk in maintaining the assets at a desired level of service. This course will describe the systematic steps/approaches of asset management for a sustainable solution and pave the path of the asset management journey. This course will focus on general framework for core civil infrastructure assets (transportation and water and wastewater systems) that includes asset information system, asset management plan development, asset demand and gap analysis, detailed condition evaluation, service level standards, life cycle costing and asset valuation, project prioritization and investment decision making, asset reliability, risk assessment, adaptative measures and resilient infrastructure, asset management business plan development and its implementation. The course will also provide general asset specific insight for other industry assets by using Canadian and International best practices. This course will provide participants with strategic guidance to plan and implement asset management principles and methodologies for infrastructure assets within their jurisdiction.

Objectives:-
The participants will:
1) Better understand the tools and techniques to develop an asset management plan.
2) Gain knowledge about AMBOK (Asset Management Body of Knowledge) and existing industry standards.
3) Learn how to manage inventory and data sets specific to asset category.
4) Learn how to value their assets in the life cycle.
5) Be able to develop service level standards for their assets.
