This two-day course is tailored for individuals who want to gain better understanding in the detailed structure of the skin and the correlation between structure and penetration. Participants will be introduced to the biochemistry of the upper layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, and the different theories about pathways of penetration through it. The course will provide tools for understanding the limitations in penetration and will suggest possible ways to overcome the skin barrier. It will discuss testing models as well as considerations to be taken such as skin age and condition.

Nava Dayan is a skin-care and health expert with nearly 25 years of industry experience. Her experience includes skin research and development systems in the personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, medical-device and delivery-system industries. As an independent consultant, Dr. Dayan offers a wide range of services to those industries. Her expertise includes product innovation, skin biochemistry, the development of ingredients and formulations, delivery systems for both dermal and transdermal applications, prevention of adverse effects, safety assessment, claim substantiation via clinical study design, execution and data interpretation. Dr. Dayan teaches courses on Biomarkers in Skin Care, Claim Substantiation for Topical Products, Pathways to Skin Penetration, Safety Assessment of Cosmetic Ingredients and Formulations, Skin Inflammation and Dermal Product Development. Dr. Dayan received her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics specializing in skin delivery from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
