June 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (ET)

Who Should Attend
This training is especially designed for those who would benefit from a complete overview of refinery processing and performance criteria and those with limited to moderate petroleum refining experience or those who are involved in supporting operations. In addition, operating personnel and engineering staff who need an overview of the entire refinery would fine the course very valuable.

Job Titles/Functions Appropriate for the Seminar:
  • Process, Project, Environmental and Plant Engineers
  • Operations Economic Evaluators
  • Commercial Development and Planning Engineers
  • Insurers and Insurance Evaluators
  • Fuel Buyers and Oil Traders
  • Catalyst Manufacturers and Refinery Chemists
  • Refinery Computer/System Analysts
  • Product, Equipment, Chemicals, Supplies or Services Sales
    Personnel
  • Refinery Modeling Engineers

Description
This course will be available On Demand: June 12, 2014

This 90-minute accredited online training will present an overview of a modern, integrated petroleum refinery, including the feedstock properties, product slate, and the processes used to convert crude oil and intermediate streams into desirable products. Basic hydrocarbon chemistry, crude oil properties and fuel product quality will be discussed, including changes to products resulting from worldwide environmental legislation. The Oil Manager in ASPEN-HYSYS will be used to illustrate oil characterization and processing.

Seminar Highlights:
Chemistry; physical properties, product quality, process chemistry, oil characterization and hypothetical components, impact of environmental legislation

Engineering; overview of the modern integrated petroleum refinery, atmospheric, vacuum distillation modeling, feedstock/products, current and future processing

Organized by: CfPA-The Center for Professional Advancement
Invited Speakers: Gennaro J. (Jerry) Maffia; Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at Widener University and Consultant to the Chemical Processing Industry

After twenty years as a principal process engineer and manager in the petrochemicals industry, mostly with Atlantic Richfield, Inc., Dr. Gennaro (Jerry) Maffia joined Widener University in the fall of 1992 as Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering. In 2010 Prof. Maffia joined his alma mater Manhattan College as Professor of Chemical Engineering. He also continues as Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Drexel University. Prof. Maffia is an active consultant in chemical and bio-based processes, and is an associate of several consulting firms. He has offered many short courses, webinars and training workshops on process engineering and related topics at industrial and academic sites around the world. Prof. Maffia has degrees from Dartmouth College (PhD), NYU (MBA), and Manhattan College (BE & ME). He is the holder of seven US patents, several world patents and is a contributor to another 50. Prof. Maffia has supervised 55 graduate theses and has been in residence during 4 world scale petrochemical plant start-ups.
