Hydrogenation Technology

  April 17, 2013

CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
23-25 September 2013

Who Should Attend
This course is designed for technical professionals who are, or will be, involved with hydrogenation processes in R&D or manufacturing situations for the specialty chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.

It would be of particular benefit to:

  • Chemists
  • Engineers
  • Laboratory Personnel
  • Pilot Plant Personnel
  • Production Personnel
  • Process Development Personnel

Description
This is a survey course intended to provide participants with a practical understanding of hydrogenation. The role of catalysts will be covered, including specific industrial catalysts and the reactions and processes where used. Emphasis will be placed on the design and layout of the hydrogenation laboratory, pilot plant and commercial plant and on hydrogenation operations in laboratory, pilot plant and plant equipment. The design of batch and continuous reactors, hydrogen handling and overall operation safety will also be discussed.

Organized by: CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement
Invited Speakers: A.K.S. Murthy, PhD, PE; Chemical & Refining Process Consultant

Dr. A.K.S. Murthy is a consultant to the Chemical, Oil & Gas and Pharmaceutical industries, providing expertise in Process Engineering. He has a strong background in analyzing, designing and scaling up chemical reactor systems and has successfully used it to optimize existing reactors and for process development from lab-scale to commercial operation. He has also developed custom thermodynamic correlations for designing and optimizing complex distillation columns. Prior becoming an independent consultant, he was with the Linde Group in Murray Hill, New Jersey, responsible for business development around the world in the oil, gas and chemical market sectors and for providing leadership for industrial gas application R&D in those industries. His prior experience includes managing process engineering at Jacobs Engineering in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and various technical and management positions in Honeywell in Morristown, New Jersey. His hydrogenation experience consists of the design and trouble shooting of commercial reactors as well as lab and pilot plant scale process development using slurry catalyst, commercial fixed bed reactors in petroleum refining and providing hydrogen safety training to customers.

Murthy (as he prefers to be called) holds a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the Columbia University in New York. He is a Professional Engineer, registered in New Jersey. He has also served as the Course Director for courses on Gasification, Nitration and Amination Technologies and Gas Fluidization, offered by The Center for Professional Advancement. He holds fifteen patents and is the author of over thirty publications.
