This 90-minute accredited online training course is designed to present the basics of color with regard to its use in decorative cosmetics. Discussion will include the fundamentals of color basics and the general process of selection of color for decorative cosmetics. International color regulations will also be discussed with emphasis on the US, European and Japanese requirements, including recent developments in these markets.

Invited Speakers: Edwin B. Faulkner; Director, Cosmetics & Classical Pigments, Sun Chemical Corporation-Performance Pigments 

Ed Faulkner holds a degree in Chemistry from Widener University and has 40 years of experience in the color industry. He has been with Sun Chemical Corporation for over 38 years and is currently Global Business Director – Cosmetics and Personal Care. During his career with Sun Chemical, Ed held numerous technical, manufacturing, administrative, sales and regulatory positions. His responsibilities have necessitated a travel schedule that includes North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

Ed is a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Cincinnati, teaching in the Masters Program in Cosmetic Science. In addition, he is an instructor for both the Center for Professional Advancement in New Brunswick, New Jersey and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, where he also serves as the color person on the “Ask the Expert” section of their website. Ed was formerly Chairman of the Color Additive Committee of the Cosmetic, Toiletries and Fragrance Association (CTFA) and is currently active in the Colored Pigments Manufacturers Association (CPMA), including serving as Chairman of the Annual Conference in 2004 and 2005. He also served as Chairman of the Intertech Color Cosmetics Summit in Paris, Nice, Montreal and Boca Raton; Ed is currently on the Speaker Review Committee for the same conference.

Ed has had numerous articles published on organic pigments and, in addition, authored the Color Cosmetic Additives chapter in The Chemistry and Manufacture of Cosmetics and served as Co-Editor of the 2nd Edition of the High Performance Pigment Handbook published in 2009. He has lectured on the subject of pigments in many parts of the world, including the United States, England, France, Canada, Venezuela, Chile, Japan, Holland and China. Most recently, Ed has authored a book that was published in February 2012 titled Coloring the Cosmetic World – Using Pigments in Decorative Cosmetic Formulations.
