Who Should Attend
This course is designed for working professionals to apply the fundamentals of project management for real projects. Especially covered are the importance of working with people, the how to of setting good project objectives, and how use a structured approach to plan projects. Project stakeholders, business managers, innovators, project leaders, team members, engineers, information technologists, and others involved in projects should attend. The course is applicable across all industry lines.

Description
This 3-day, accredited, applied project management fundamentals course focuses heavily on the three vital keys to successful project management: people, setting good objectives, and good planning. The course is strongly application oriented—the concepts are taught and then applied to real situations and projects. Some of the topics covered include leadership, building followers and changing yourself, motivation, teamwork, roles and responsibilities, truly effective communication, project and product lifecycles, power and authority, meeting management, project quality management, how to better define project objectives so they work, work-breakdown structures, project logic network diagrams, critical path method, Gantt charts, resource management, and procurement management. There are fourteen challenging personal applications and five team breakout sessions, making this course one where the participant is truly a participant and comes away with a new appreciation for the fundamentals of effective project management.

Invited Speakers: Dr. Eldon R. Larsen; PMI-certified Project Management Professional, Professor of Engineering, Marshall University

Dr. Eldon Larsen is a PMI-certified Project Management Professional and Professor of Engineering at Marshall University where he coordinates the Master of Science and Engineering Degree. Dr. Larsen has taught graduate project management courses in industry and university settings. Dr. Larsen worked for many years in R&D for Union Carbide Corporation where he led a major effort to develop and implement Project Management for R&D.

Dr. Larsen is owner and sole proprietor of E. R. Education Services. He has trained scientists, medical physicians, managers, and other professionals in organizations such as the FBI, Idaho National Laboratory, Holzer Clinics and Hospitals, Amazon.com, Verizon, Columbia Gas, and NASA. He has taught in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Larsen is a past chair of the Management Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He has served Chair (twice) of the Charleston Section of the AIChE, and is a Fellow of the AIChE. He has served as President and CEO of the West Virginia/Ohio Valley Chapter of the Project Management Institute.

Dr. Larsen received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, all in chemical engineering.
