Photobiology is broadly defined to include all biological phenomena involving non-ionizing radiation. It has been established that non-ionizing radiation can induce photobiological responses including both chemical and/or physical changes in biological systems. The WHO warned about the risk of prolonged human exposure to solar UV radiation as it may result in acute and chronic health effects on the skin, eye and immune system. Recent research further suggests that, in addition to UV radiation, other non-ionizing radiation such as visible and near UV radiation also has the potential of inducing photochemical reactions at the molecular level.

This 90-minute accredited course will focus on these scientific findings related to skin exposure and discuss their implication in the development of suncare legislation and product standards.
