  June 29, 2011

CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement, 90 Minute Accredited Online Training
July 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (ET)

Who Should Attend
The course should be of value to those interested in micro- or nanoencapsulation, as well as to those in industry and research laboratories who would profit from an overview and discussion of the many encapsulation techniques and characteristics. It should be of particular interest to personnel in the following industries:

  • Pharmaceutical
  • Chemical
  • Food
  • Bioengineering
  • Cosmetic
  • Agricultural
  • Consumer Products
  • Industrial Applications

Description
This 90-minute accredited online training course will provide an overview of microencapsulation and other common encapsulation techniques. Emphasis will be placed on proven techniques, results, and applications in various industries. Discussions will focus on identifying key parameters that are required to select encapsulation techniques and formulations for a variety of applications. This training will include opportunities for learning assessment.

Review of Learning Objectives
Module 1: Introduction to Encapsulation

  • History of microencapsulation
  • Encapsulation definitions and terminology
  • General encapsulation characteristics (release
    mechanisms, important properties, etc.)

Module 2: Encapsulation Processes
  • Physical microencapsulation processes
  • Chemical microencapsulation processes
  • Nanoencapsulation processes

Module 3: Formulations and Applications

Question and Answer Session

Organized by: CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement
Invited Speakers: Dr. James Oxley, Senior Research Scientist, Department of Microencapsulation and Nanomaterials, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI®)

Dr. James Oxley is currently a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Microencapsulation and Nanomaterials at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI®). SwRI is a recognized leader in the field of encapsulation with nearly 60 years of research and development experience ranging from proof-of-concept to production. Dr. Oxley directs staff engaging in contract research pertaining to encapsulation and controlled release. His responsibilities include delineating a research approach in encapsulation, process development, formulation development, analytical studies, and the development of novel micro- and nanoencapsulation techniques. Dr. Oxley received a B.S. in Chemistry from Texas Christian University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has several publications in refereed journals and conference symposia, and has given invited talks both domestically and internationally. Dr. Oxley is currently a member of the American Chemical Society, Controlled Release Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and International Society of Microencapsulation.
