Managing Multiple Projects Utilizing Lean Manufacturing Techniques

  January 11, 2011

CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement, 90 Minute Accredited Online Training
February 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (ET)

Who Should Attend
This course is intended for all stakeholders in the Process, Power, Food, Pharmaceutical, Plastics, and Paper Industries who have the responsibility to make several projects happen successfully and simultaneously: project managers, construction managers, maintenance managers, IT personnel, technical support personnel, process engineers, project support personnel, purchasing/procurement personnel, material suppliers, and senior managers of owner operators and EPC/AECs.

Description
This 90-minute accredited online course is designed to provide an introduction to the basic LEAN principles of managing multiple projects, or programs. Managing multiple projects is about LEVELING the DEMAND of projects against the SUPPLY of resources in the face of constant change. We live in an environment where programs are no longer simple, slow, and certain, but are complex, quick, and uncertain.

Whether your multiple projects are part of a large multi-million-dollar effort, or small revamp projects at a manufacturing site, the issues are the same and the systems you create to respond to the challenges can be the same. While there are many new IT tools available which we can use to stay competitive, we cannot ignore the basic concepts of good project management. Only by understanding basic LEAN program delivery systems and techniques will we be able to apply new IT solutions to enable improved project success with fewer resources. By participating in this course, you will understand how LEAN can allow concurrent improvements in the BIG FIVE Metrics (cost, schedule, quality, safety, and green). You will no longer have to pick 2 or 3 at the expense of the other metrics.

Module 1: A Shared Understanding of LEAN – Learning to SeeThrough LEAN Lenses
  • New Thinking, New Doing
  • History of LEAN

Module 2: Change Management for Multiple Projects
  • Last Planner Planning and Production Control
  • Prioritization
  • Resource Management
  • Leveling demand against supply

Module 3: London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 Case Study
  • Six Billion Dollars of Multiple Projects
  • Challenges
  • LEAN approach to delivering results
