Sulfonation and Sulfation Technology

  May 20, 2010

CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement, New Brunswick, NJ
October 13-15, 2010

Who Should Attend
This course is intended for chemists and engineers within the food, metal, petroleum, cosmetic and household products industries. Professionals who are, or will be, involved with the application of sulfonation and sulfation processes in R&D or manufacturing situations will benefit from this practical course. Personnel with the following job functions will find the course valuable:

  • Manufacturing Specialists
  • Market Development Professionals
  • Process/Project Engineers
  • Production Managers & Facilitators
  • Research Associates & Chemists
  • Supervisors/Team Managers
  • Control Operators

Description
Sulfonation and sulfation processes are widely used in industry to make products such as water-soluble detergents, emulsifiers and demulsifiers, penetrating and solubilizing agents, lubricating oil additives and rust inhibitors. These materials are used in household and commercial detergent applications, food processing, dyes, cosmetics manufacturing, metal treating compounds, high detergent and high based lubricating oils. More recently, oil-soluble sulfonates have found application in enhanced oil recovery systems.

The course will discuss, in depth, air/SO3 sulfonation and sulfation to provide an understanding of the chemistry and reaction mechanisms involved; the feedstocks and sulfonating agents available; laboratory, pilot plant and plant equipment and methods; product isolation and purification, analytical methods, and safety. In addition, an overview of alternative sulfonation technologies and relative applications will be presented and discussed.

Organized by: CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement
