CfPA - The Center for Professional Advancement, New Brunswick, NJ
October 26-28, 2010
ho Should Attend This intensive training course is designed for professionals in various industrial fields including: • Detergents • Cosmetics • Agrochemicals • Pharmaceuticals • Biotechnology • Paints • Paper • Coatings • Inks • Ceramics
It would be most beneficial for: • Research and Development Scientists • Formulation Chemists • Material Scientists and Biologists
The course can also be valuable to postgraduate research staff. Description This course is designed to bring you up-to-date on the basic principles involved in colloid and interface science, as well as surfactants, and to demonstrate their relevance for solving practical problems. Such problems are encountered in various engineering aspects of formation of dispersions, their longterm physical stability, and the preparation of various systems of paints, inks, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, detergents and many household products. The course provides the fundamental principles of colloid and interface science, with particular emphasis on surfactants and their applications. Theories are adequately described, but more emphasis is given toward commercial application of the fundamental concepts. Application of these fundamental principles follows in a logical way.
Practical examples of formulation solving are included and you are encouraged to bring your problems and needs for public or private discussion with the course director.

Dr. Tharwat F. Tadros; Independent Consultant
Dr. Tharwat F. Tadros was a Senior Research Associate at Zeneca Agrochemicals, formerly a division of Imperial Chemical Industries (IC). Presently he is a consultant in various fields of colloid and interface science, formulation of chemical products and rheology. He is also an expert on surfactants and their applications. Dr. Tadros is associated with several universities in the UK, in particular the Imperial College (London), Bristol and Reading University. The areas of research he is engaged in cover a wide range: stability of aqueous and non-aqueous dispersions, concentrated suspensions, emulsions and microemulsions, surfactants and their behavior at various interfaces and the rheology of concentrated dispersions. Dr. Tadros is the author of over 200 papers and has edited several books on polymer adsorptions and stability, surfactants, solid/liquid dispersions, surfactants and polymers in disperses system. He is also the sole author of a book on surfactants and agrochemicals. Dr. Tadros is editor of Colloids and Surfaces as well as The Advances in Colloid and Interface Science. He was also president of the International Association of Colloid Scientists. In recognition of his work in colloid and surface chemistry, he received two medals from the Royal Chemical Society in the U.K.
