Who Should Attend The course has been designed for all individuals who are involved directly or indirectly in the selection and/or utilization of ingredients for cosmetics. This includes experienced and entry level professionals from cosmetic companies and ingredient manufacturers.
The course has proven to be beneficial to:
• Formulation Chemists and Associated Technologists • Microbiologists • Analytical Chemists • Processing and Packaging Engineers • Dermatologists • Pharmacologists • Sales and Marketing Staff Description This course is intended to provide a comprehensive survey of ingredients fundamental to the cosmetic industry. The presentations will emphasize current trends in the selection of cosmetic ingredients. The chemistry and technology of cosmetic raw materials will be related to their behavioral properties as utilized in the construction of stable functional systems. In this way, it is intended to generate a better understanding of the contributions of ingredients to the performance of finished product formulations.
Key ingredients to be examined will include emulsifiers, surfactants, fatty chemicals, emollients and moisturizers, powders, polymers, humectants, thickeners, preservatives and numerous other specialty chemicals. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing and dealing with problem areas associated with the use of various ingredients. Safety considerations and other pertinent matters which can influence ingredient selection will be included in these discussions.

Richard J. Thabit; President, Thabit Associates, Inc.
Richard J. Thabit is President of Thabit Associates, Inc., a cosmetics consulting and sales firm. Mr. Thabit has over 40 years experience in raw material and finished product design, development, applications, marketing and sales.
He began his career as an Applications Chemist with Mona Industries, Inc., moved into product development and technical management at Avon Products for 15 years and then held Vice President positions at Nice-Pak Products, Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott (BASF), Givaudan-Roure, Mona Industries and Uniqema.
Mr. Thabit holds a B.A. in Biology from New York University and a M.A.S in Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He authored the chapter on Bath Products in Advances in Cosmetic Technology, and conducted in-house training courses while employed at several of the above named corporations. His corporation was formed in 2001 to provide business management & marketing services and product development & sales consultants to both raw material suppliers and finished goods firms.
