Experimental Tools in Model Systems of Translational Vision Research

  May 01, 2006

The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME
September 27-30, 2006

Building upon the success of the first meeting in the fall of 2004, entitled "The Laboratory Mouse in Vision Research", this conference continues to focus on bringing together students and established investigators with varying levels of expertise and experience to discuss their research findings, identify areas of common interest and develop future directions. Invited speakers will present background, raise important scientific questions and/or discuss their own work in these topic areas: 1) Photoreceptors/transduction, 2) Inner retinal processing and 3) Central vision systems. Course participant platform presentations of 15-20 minutes each, chosen from submitted poster abstracts, will also highlight these topics.

A unique feature of the meeting will be a selection of workshops such as Clinical assessment-indirect ophthalmoscopy and flourescein angiography, Histological assessment, Electrophysiology, Genetic manipulation, Genetic mapping/modifiers, Mouse Mutant Resources, Microarray Experiment Design and Analysis, Proteomics, and Grant writing. These workshops will include hands-on experiences, protocols, discussion of data interpretation and/or tours of Jackson Laboratory facilities. Our Down East Lobster Bake will top off the meeting, with a special keynote address. Postdoctoral and graduate students are encouraged to attend.
