This course is designed specifically for physicians planning to certify or recertify in the Infectious Disease Subspecialty of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is also suitable for physicians planning to take Infectious Disease sections of the internal medicine board examination. This comprehensive course will cover clinical aspects of diseases likely to be encountered by infectious disease specialists in internal medicine, including clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, epidemiology, host defense mechanisms, and antimicrobial pharmacology. Viruses, parasites, bacteria, mycobacteria, and fungi will be covered. Diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, diseases of travelers, immunocompromised patients, critical care patients, and organ transplant recipients will also be discussed. An audience response system will allow participants to test themselves extensively on practice Board questions. After completing the course, attendees will be more confident of their ability to perform well on the upcoming Infectious Disease Subspecialty Examination and will have improved their clinical knowledge.
