This course is designed to cover the essential components of drug development, emphasizing the aspects that are unique to protein therapeutics. The goal of the course is to provide a road map from drug discovery to product launch, for those interested in or currently pursuing a career in biotechnology. Variations in the approaches taken at specific steps in the development of protein versus small molecule therapeutics will be highlighted. These will include technology and regulatory differences. Examples of multiple levels of success in the development of protein therapeutics, based upon time, cost and market opportunity, will be presented and discussed.
