43rd Annual Short Course in Medical and Experimental Medical Genetics
  December 13, 2001

Genetics

The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine
14 July through 26 July, 2002

This two week course includes daily lectures in the mornings and evenings
supplemented by afternoon mini-symposia, workshops tutorials, and
demonstrations. There is special emphasis on student-faculty interaction.
The diversity of the faculty in terms of disciplines and of the students in terms
of stage of career and fields of concentration makes for an exciting experience
for all. Although the course schedule is busy, there are opportunities to enjoy
the natural beauties of Mt. Desert Island including hiking, biking, and
kayaking.

Most aspects of human and medical genetics are covered including
cytogenetics, biochemical and molecular genetics, developmental genetics,
population genetics, linkage analysis, analysis of complex traits, and basics
of clinical genetics. Special emphasis in this year's course are on genome
diversity, cardiovascular development and disease, and neurogenetics.
