Description:

Precision-AG

Recently the need for securing and attaining greater sustainability of our shared Land Food Systems (LFS) in our own backyard of British Columbia has been moved ahead for planning in the future to expand, modernize, and adapt (viz. greener technologies and methods) towards a more secure or dependable and sustainable food production system for plant cropping and rearing animal livestock.

Green housing (GH) is nothing new as with so-called Hot House (R) branding of grown vegetable on your produce stand in grocers stores in British Columbia (BC) with the ff. criteria in mind:

  • Input controls including energy (viz. hydro, heat exchangers and solar paneling from the sun's irradiation)
  • Efficiency with little no waste of inputs/outputs
  • Maximizing output volume for greatest profit or gain
  • Organic farming practices (e. g. vermiculture) to minimize of eliminate chemical inputs
  • No pollution or contamination in soils and water or land, air and food itself from crops, feedstuffs and animal products from livestock
  • Biostimulants for use to accelerate nutrient uptake by plant crops for growth and development towards production

It is highlighted here within BC's territory on the Westcoast of North America to introduce a horticulturally adapted aquaponic technique for growing in future mariner seagrasses from the Ocean's seas off our coast. Much research is required amongst Botanists [saying hello to the Dept of Botany, UBC Vancouver (Point Grey campus) BC Canada] to mine the genome and study its growth possibilities in culture and to adapt it to aquaponic greenhousing in a capitalized plant environment for continuous growth and harvesting for downstream processing to produce drugs (e. g. human insulin for T2Diabetes), bioenergy fuels such as advanced, hi-density (low-knocking) automotive fuel alcohols and for electrical grid support in hybrid systems for the future, and when set up with capitalization produce biofeedstock for feeding the dairy industry as agri-retailers to farmers in semi- and rural areas of BC.

On-farm cropping settings are usually referred to by Precision AGriculture in terms of season sowing of plants/seeds, delivery mechanically with or without semi-automation for growing, maintenance of care and harvesting for optimum conditions including irrigation, fertilization, soil conditioning, C-sinking against GHG emissions, weather forecasting to control growing conditions through better planning with cropping and avoid weather extremes of drought and flooding (e. g. using municipal dykes) and farm management technology including automation through mechanical control and precision.
