The biocomputing systems from TimeLogic enable genome researchers to compare DNA and protein sequences faster than large computer clusters. By processing highly parallelized algorithms on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) circuitry, searches like BLAST and Hidden Markov Model comparisons are executed in minutes instead of days or weeks. Since the majority of the computing is being done on the FPGA cards, the system can pay for itself in electric cost savings within 1-2 years. Since the hardware is modernized through software updates, the power and cooling costs continue over a much longer lifespan than most computers.
