Fremont, CA – May 26, 2010

AnaSpec has introduced two new Glutathione (GSH) related kits - the SensoLyte® Glutathione Cellular Assay Kit and the SensoLyte® GST Activity Assay Kit to complement the colorimetric and fluorimetric SensoLyte® Total GSH assay kits.

The SensoLyte® Glutathione Cellular Assay Kit provides a sensitive fluorescent assay for determination of the glutathione levels in cell or tissue extracts. The kit contains a non-fluorescent substrate, which selectively reacts with GSH in reaction catalyzed by glutathione S-transferase (GST) to form a fluorescent glutathione adduct. The resulting blue fluorescence can be monitored at Ex/Em= 390 nm/480 nm.

The SensoLyte® GST Activity Assay Kit detects total GST activity in plasma, cell and tissue lysates. It contains a non-fluorescent substrate for GST, which upon conjugation with reduced GSH generates bright fluorescence that can be detected at Ex/Em= 390nm/480 nm.

Glutathione S-transferases (GST) belong to a family of enzymes that is involved in detoxification and toxification mechanisms. They act via conjugation of reduced glutathione (GSH) with numerous substrates such as pharmaceuticals and environmental pollutants.1-4 GST enzymes are believed to be crucial to the body's defense against cancer-causing chemicals and other toxins. These enzymes also carry out a wide range of functions in cells such as removal of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and regeneration of S-thiolated proteins, both of which are consequences of oxidative stress.
