PRINCETON, N.J., Sep. 9, 2004 - Orchid BioSciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: ORCH), a leading worldwide supplier of DNA identity testing services, today announced the launch of its IDSecure™ service designed to ensure that workers on high-risk assignments can be accurately identified in the event of an emergency or accident. The new service allows companies to offer employees the opportunity to store unique genetic identifiers in a confidential and safe setting for use only in the event that their identity cannot be verified by other means. Orchid has already partnered with another services firm to provide IDSecure to a major employer of workers on overseas assignment, and is now offering the IDSecure service to private and public sector employers worldwide.

“Orchid’s long history of leadership in applying the latest developments in DNA technology to identity testing has enabled us to help provide innovative solutions in a wide variety of areas that include solving difficult criminal cases, identifying victims of the World Trade Center attacks, and working to identify past historical figures including Christopher Columbus,” said Paul J. Kelly, M.D., chief executive officer of Orchid. “We are proud now to offer IDSecure to the large numbers of people working in potentially dangerous situations around the world.”

Through its Cellmark and GeneScreen businesses in the U.S. and Europe, Orchid has provided rapid, accurate and secure identity testing services for hundreds of thousands of individuals since 1987. Its customers include a broad mix of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, social service organizations, corporations and private individuals.

Dr. Kelly added, “As a pioneer for almost two decades in expanding the availability of highly accurate and confidential DNA testing services to advance forensic science, parentage determination, immigration and adoption verification, it is fitting that Orchid take the lead in offering the security of DNA identity testing to men and women volunteering for work assignments in high-risk areas and occupations.”

For more information on the IDSecure service, please contact Dale Rutty at 1-800-DNA-TEST (362-8378) or at (716) 523-0553 for callers outside the U.S., or by e-mail at IDSecure@orchid.com.
