(Pre-print) publishing on HUM-MOLGEN WWW | ||||
Pre-print publishing provides researchers with the opportunity to immediately publish interesting research results (including "negative" results), abstracts, observations or theories. Once the writer signs a copyright agreement with a traditional publisher and lets the electronic publisher know, the electronic version is immediately and automatically removed. In physics, preprint publishing is quite common. However, in the biomedical and biological sciences, pre-print publishing is still quite new. In 1998, HUM-MOLGEN held a survey among its 5500 subscribers about the desirability (pre-) printservices. The answers to two questions indicated an overwhelming support for pre-printservices: Do you think pre-print publishing would be a useful addition to HUM-MOLGEN? A. Yes 30.0% B. Yes, but only if it is moderated 50.0% C. No 7.0% D. Don't know or no opinion 13.0% 10. If HUM-MOLGEN offered pre-print publishing on its www site, with brief announcements on the listserv, would you be likely to publish anything? A. Yes 43.0% B. No 47.0% C. Undecided 10.0% There are some simple rules to follow for submitting documents for preprint-publishing (we can and will not accept other forms): (1) simply E-mail your document preferentially as an attachment in Word 6.0 or WordPerfect 6.0. (2) State your full name, title and affiliations. (3) At present only short letters (abstracts) no longer than one page A4 or comprehensive reviews are acceptable. (4) The SUBJECT heading of your E-mail reply should at least start with: LITE: preprint (5) Send your document by E-mail to HUM-MOLGEN@nic.surfnet.nl (6) Indicate, if needed, when you want your document automatically be removed. Thank you in advance for your effort and collaboration => HUM-MOLGEN documents section |
