EMBO Conference: Molecular Machines: Integrative Structural and Molecular Biology

  July 19, 2016

EMBL, EMBL, Heidelberg
2016-11-20

As we aim to study ever more complex systems including large, flexible and frequently transient macromolecular assemblies and their function in the cellular context, the limitations to study biological structure and mechanisms become ever more apparent.

A strategic goal in modern biology is to overcome some of these limitations and to bridge the divide between structural molecular biology and structural cell biology. While each technique on its own and computational methods are becoming ever more powerful, it is expected that major gains will be made by new technologies and by applying integrative or ‘hybrid’ approaches to the study of challenging biological systems.

Aims

The goal of this conference is to illustrate the state-of-the art of different approaches, to identify promising new advances in experimental methods for collecting and analysing the data and to discuss application of integrative and cutting edge methodology across scales.
