HISTORY AND AIMS

       The Ethnobotany Symposio was founded in year 1999 in Costa Rica, under the auspices of the University for Peace. Since then it convened periodically in Latin America, gathering a vast collection of papers, contributions and memories on the various fields of Ethnobotany and Allied Disciplines. In Year 2010, in Lisbon, Portugal, we  involved on aspects concerning the pioneering work of navigators and explorers along the seapathways of Vasco da Gama, and their contributions to the study of Botany and its implications for World food production and Supply. Bioprospection, Ethnomedicine and Primary Health Alternative Medicine. In 2011 the Meeting was held at Lima, Perú, completing a pilgrimage along Latin America, which provided the participants enough material and fresh knowledge, as to assess the validity of a long planning effort to keep tightly working the people doing with Plants, Pharmacology, Ethnomedicine, Folk Traditions and the History of Medicine. 

      For year 2012 the General Assembly of Symposio approved (Iquitos, Peru, Sept., 19th) to celebrate, jointly with British and European scientists and scholars, the X Conference, with special mention to tropical medicine, to be held at The Wellcome Trust Genome Campus,  Rosalind Franklin Pavilion, Hinxton, Cambridge, England.

The main fields of lecturing and discussion of Participants will be - but not limited to- on: 

MEDICINAL PLANTS, FOLK TRADITIONS, ARCHAEOBOTANY, HISTORY OF  MEDICINE, ETHNOMEDICINE, ETHNOPSYCHIATRY, ETHNOPHARMACOLOGY, PHARMACOGNOSY, PHYTOCHEMISTRY, GEOBOTANY, PALAEOBOTANY, PLANTS AND GLOBAL WARMING. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, ETHNOMEDICINE APPROACH TO MODERN PRIMARY HEALTH ATTENTION, WITH EMPHASIS IN  ETHNOPSYCHIATRY (Environment, Therapies)

CANCELLATION OF CONFERENCE

Because the lack of adhesions within the deadlines for registration, dues payment, sending of ABSTRACTS and last minute notice of disease of important invited lectures, the Organizing Committee is committed to cancel the Symposio.

Interested parties are invited to adhere to the realization of a Videoconference by internet on dayS 18 - 20th, so they can present their  Papers, Posters and Communications, wich in time will be posted in a CD ROM as Proceedings. 

Revisited deadline for applications: July 30th, 2012 

After this date no applications will be processed.
