Genomic Epidemiology of Malaria

  May 08, 2008

Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, Cambridgshire, CB10 1RQ
15th-18th June 2008

This meeting will focus on investigation and application of natural genetics and genome variation in the parasite, host, and vector, with cross-cutting sessions to encourage scientific interactions between researchers and to get at biological interactions between organisms.  For example: ·       Understanding natural selection at the level of the whole genome·       Genome-wide association and linkage analysis of virulence determinants in parasites and resistance to infection in mosquitoes and humans·       Public health applications, such as surveillance of genome variation in natural populations of plasmodium and anopheles to monitor drug resistance and insecticide resistance·       How far have we got in describing the extent of natural genomic variation in plasmodium, anopheles and humans?·       What tools will we be using to get at genome-wide variation in large epidemiological studies in 2 years time? From here we hope to generate in-depth dialogues about specific opportunities and challenges in understanding the genomic epidemiology of malaria with respect to research, treatment and prevention. More information about the conference including confirmed speakers and registration details can be found at http://www.wtconference.org/ or contact j.beard@wtconference.org.uk
