Development and Function of Secondary and Tertiary Lymphoid Tissues

  August 11, 2006

Institut Pasteur, Paris
September 4-5, 2006

Adaptive immune responses are initiated in large and highly organized clusters of lymphocytes and antigen presenting cells, the secondary and tertiary lymphoid tissues (LTs). This fundamental function of LTs may however turn out to be detrimental during chronic inflammation, and lead to the exacerbation of disease. Understanding the development and function of LTs will not only allow designing better strategies for the generation of adaptive immune responses, it will also allow inducing LTs to enhance local immunotherapy and vaccines, and modulate inflammatory disease. For the first time, and reflecting the growing dynamism of the field, this meeting will bring together the world's experts to discuss new data, shape promising avenues, and help to formulate bold but realistic goals. Over two days and four sessions, all aspects of the development, structure, function and therapeutic potential of LTs will be debated. The meeting has been designed to optimize both formal exchanges during sessions and informal networking during evening social events.
