Mouse Models at the Frontiers of Cancer Discovery

  June 15, 2006

Keystone Symposia, Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
March 18 - 23, 2007

Manipulation of the mouse provides an avenue for dissecting the complexities of cancer development. Ongoing research explores causal pathways and mechanisms, including their cell specificity. Significant advances are emerging in the study of microenvironment interactions among tumor cells, the immune system, vasculature, mesenchyme and circulating factors. Models that recapitulate properties of the human diseases are being established, providing the potential for discovery and preclinical testing. The application of genomics technologies has begun to show promise in informing the human disease. Nevertheless, the use of such models in translational research is in its infancy. This meeting will highlight advances in the understanding of complex cancer mechanisms and will address the successes, challenges, and needs in translating this research to the clinic. The meeting agenda includes world-class investigators presenting cutting edge science, but also addressing issues relevant to advancing the appropriate use of spontaneous cancer models in translational endeavors.
