Gene and cell therapy

  June 30, 2005

Institut Pasteur, Paris
1-2/12/2005

The 2005 Euroconference on Cell and Gene Therapy will provide an update on the fast paced fields of experimental hematology, stem cell biology and corrective gene transfer. The expanding knowledge of the molecular mechanisms governing the underlying unique properties of embryonal and adult stem cells will be reviewed to delineate the state-of-the-art information on the prospects of utilizing these cells for experimental cell therapies. Particular attention will also be devoted to the current results of gene therapy for monogenic diseases as well as advances in the understanding of the risks associated with the use of integrating viral vectors with the aim of contributing to the ongoing discussion on risks and benefits of currently available approaches.
Advances of cell- and gene-mediated approaches to muscle disorders will be described, together with the results in the field of retinopathy and vascular disease. The meeting will also offer a close look at novel gene correction approaches aiming at targeting the mutation causing disease through genome editing approaches or using novel vectors with improved safety features. Ethics and regulatory perspectives on the subject of gene and cell therapies will also be discussed.
Through the contribution of world-renown speakers, the 2005 Euroconference on Cell and Gene Therapy will therefore present state-of-the art information in the research fields that hold the most promise to impact the future of clinical medicine. For this reason, in addition to specialists in the field, the targeted audience includes trainees and general medical professionals.
