Skin diseases are among the most commonly seen conditions in primary care practice. Scientific advances in dermatologic practice, as well as a rise in the incidence of both melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, have changed the way primary care medicine approaches the treatment of skin diseases. This course is intended to help improve diagnosis and treatment skills for primary care practitioners, as they are routinely called upon to make accurate and timely diagnoses of skin diseases in order to either treat patients or refer them to a dermatologist.

OBJECTIVES
After completing this program, participants should be able to:
·Perform clinical examinations and utilize in-office procedures to aid in the diagnosis and management of skin disorders and diseases
·Understand the underlying causes of skin disorders, such as drug-related eruptions, that may require immediate attention and close monitoring
·Recognize the early signs of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer
·Assess the need for referral to a dermatologist
·Evaluate topical dermatology products and common surgical procedures, as well as nonsurgical alternatives

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Any health professional who provides primary healthcare services will benefit from this course, including family practitioners, general practitioners, internists, obstetricians/gynecologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
