  CHI's PROTEIN EXPRESSION
  September 21, 2001

Biotechnology

Cambridge Healthtech Institute, Hilton San Diego Resort, San Diego, California
January 7-8, 2002

The vast number of candidate proteins generated from genomics programs is creating enormous opportunities for biologists. However, efficient and rapid expression of genes in homologous and heterologous expression systems and rapid purification steps are major bottlenecks. Advances in the technology to produce protein-based drugs efficiently as well as improved drug delivery strategies have accelerated the search for novel protein therapeutic candidates. However, the practical and cost-effective expression of these proteins in amounts large enough to allow for their proper characterization and evaluation and, finally, for the scale-up for large-scale production of these proteins presents many difficulties. This conference will explore the newest data and technologies relating to the expression and characterization of proteins for biological understanding and therapeutics.
