Inappropriate, or disordered, apoptosis contributes to the pathogenesis of a variety of maladies including neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmunity and cancer. The elucidation of the molecular events that determine the susceptibility to undergo apoptosis and signal cell death have enabled novel therapies to be conceived and developed.
