Because these patients’ morbidity and mortality are dependent on appropriate care, often in conjunction with cardiologists and other specialists, it is essential that physicians be well versed in the diagnosis and management of a variety of cardiovascular disease states. This course aims to provide a comprehensive update for noncardiologist physicians who seek to enhance their skills in caring for cardiac patients and identifying patients at risk for cardiovascular disease. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course has been developed for physicians who would like to enhance their knowledge of cardiovascular disease. Course material will be applicable to the • Internist • Family practitioner • General physician • Osteopath • Geriatrician • Endocrinologist • Allied health professional OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the course, it is expected that the attendee will be able to • Recognize the risk factors for cardiovascular disease • Understand current and new guidelines for management of patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and lipid disorders • Clinically evaluate patients with suspected coronary disease or suspected heart failure • Understand current techniques for the management of patients following myocardial infarction • Choose the appropriate drugs for the treatment of heart failure based on currently available evidence • Manage the arrhythmias commonly seen in primary care practice |
