  Neurogenomics 2002
  June 05, 2001

Neurology / Neuroscience

Co- Hosts: UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, NC State University, & Cogent Neuroscience, at The William & Ida Friday Center, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
7th of May 2002 - 9th of May 2002

The revolutionary field of neurogenomics explores the genetic nature of brain disorders by applying the tools of genomics to the study of the central nervous system.

The aim of neurogenomics is the discovery of novel, effective treatments for human disease.

Using techniques as far-ranging as SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) analysis, gene sequencing, EST (Expressed Sequence Tag) identification, particle-mediated gene transfer and high throughput gene screening, practitioners in this new field are working to develop therapies that address stroke, Alzheimer's, Lou Gehrig's (ALS), schizophrenia, glaucoma, Parkinson's and other neurological diseases from the vantage point of their molecular underpinnings.
