GENETIC RESOURCES FOR THE NEW CENTURY | ||||
Zoological Society of San Diego
, San Diego Marriott, La Jolla, California May 7 - 11 |
||||
The Zoological Society of San Diego will sponsor, May 7-11, 2000, a major international conference on the crucial conservation issue of genome resources. Our medicine, our agriculture, our understanding of ourselves and our universe, will be altered in the post-genomics era. "Genetic Resources for the New Century" will bring together scientists with vision from many disciplines and backgrounds to quicken the dialogue, to examine current efforts, and to explore potential mechanisms for linking biodiversity conservation with biomedical discoveries in both economic and altruistic ways. The future can only benefit from a more deliberate and comprehensive effort to collect and utilize genetic resources than is currently being envisaged. Thoughtful and challenging presentations on genomics, cloning, biotechnology development, ethics, ethnobotany, biodiversity, molecular modeling and in situ conservation (to name a few) are being planned featuring speakers renowned in their specific fields. |
