HUM-MOLGEN events
Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics

Institut Pasteur , Paris, France.
October 12-13, 2000

Pharmacogenomics, a rapidly expanding discipline devoted to the study of the genetic differences that affect the individual's responses to drugs, is the latest source of excitement in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Indeed, it promises drugs tailored to patient genetic background and new avenues for therapy and refined diagnostics. The objective of this EUROCONFERENCE is to determine to what extent the enthusiasm is justified, how and when pharmacogenomics will give birth to a new generation of customized drugs and its impact on the practice of medicine. Specifically, the conference will provide a state of the art in pharmacogenomics, including research strategies and clinical use, will review and up-date the technologies applied in pharmacogenomics, the strategies for the identification of new genomic targets and candidate genes and their validation, will study the pharmacogenomic of model diseases, the future role of pharmacogenomics in drug discovery, its development and marketing in medicine and in molecular diagnostics. In addition, the development of gene-based disease management programmes will be reviewed.
