HUM-MOLGEN events
3rd Annual Strategies and Techniques for IDENTIFICATION of NOVEL BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS

Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) , Brussels, Belgium
October 20-22, 1999

The way in which discovery of novel therapeutic candidates is achieved has changed profoundly in the last decade. The challenge put forth of feeding drug candidates into the development pipeline is a rapidly evolving and complex process. The strategic design of compound libraries in a way which matches the knowledge of a given target is predicated on advanced computational analysis as well as efficient synthesis. There has been significant development in such areas as: novel synthesis strategies, library design, structure-based design, and virtual screening. The challenge to identify novel leads has driven the need for automated systems which can rapidly perform synthesis, purification and validation of compound libraries. These developments apply not only to the discovery of novel pharmaceutical compounds, but increasingly they are also being applied to the development of agricultural chemicals and a range of other applications. This conference is designed to provide a valuable forum for researchers involved in all aspects of this effort; molecular diversity, target identification, assay development, combinatorial library design and synthesis, development of other compound sources automation , chemoinformatics and integration of these components. A greater emphasis on the issues of purification and cost of compound libraries will be featured this year.
