First Conference in Kinomics: Dynamic Molecular Recognition in Life Sciences

BioTuL Bio Instruments GmbH , near Munich, Germany
5th - 6th November 1998

Invited Speakers: The international group of speakers that will be giving lectures at the conference includes among others the following:· Professor Paul A. Janmey, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. 'The interaction of cytoskeletal proteins with phosphoinositide-containing membranes.'· Professor J. Fernandez, the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, USA. 'Single protein recordings of folding/unfolding reactions by atomic force microscopy.'· Professor Jacobsen, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. 'Glycosphingolipid enriched domains in the plasma membrane: single particle tracking studies.'

Program:
The first scientific conference on kinomics, the study of molecular interactions in real time, is taking place on 5-6 November 1998. The two-day meeting, sponsored by new biotechnology company BioTuL, will be held at a picturesque castle near Munich. The event will feature lectures by distinguished scientists and is titled: "First Conference in Kinomics: Dynamic Molecular Recognition in Life Sciences".The timing of the meeting reflects the increasing importance of being able to measure kinetic aspects of biology in order to understand biological function. Kinomics offers such understanding by giving the researcher an insight into non-equilibrium biological reactions. The organisers of the conference, new biotechnology company BioTuL, will also be giving a preview of their new real-time biosensor product the Kinetic Instrument 1 (KI1) and announcing the winners of the First BioTuL Young Scientists Award at a gala dinner during the meeting. Competition entrants have been asked to propose a research project using BioTuL's new real time biosensor product the Kinetic Instrument 1 (KI1). An international scientific judging committee decide the winners of the competition and each of the three winning teams will receive a prototype of the KI1, worth around US$ 50,000. The winners will then have the chance to turn their innovative research proposals into reality using the new technology. The seven best subsequent entries will each receive a year's subscription to the international journal of science Nature. Over 25 research proposals have been received from countries around the world, including the USA, Germany, the UK, Hungary, Italy, Sweden, Holland, Israel and Latvia.Dr Gunnar Brink, General Manager of BioTuL, said: "The conference is an excellent opportunity for leading researchers to discuss the latest technologies in biomolecular kinetics and to preview BioTuL's new product in development, the KI1." On the First BioTuL Young Scientists Award he added: "The entries we have received are very innovative and cover a wide range of research areas. The presentation of the award is going to be very exciting."
