Program:
Agricultural biotechnology continues to benefit from the
insights being developed during the era of the human genome
project. The proliferation of mapping, genotyping, and
diagnostic methodologies has rapidly expanded the analytical
tools available to crop scientists for analysis of plant
genomes. This fall, for the third year in a row, U.S.
farmers will harvest commercial quantities of crops grown
from genetically altered seeds. With the passage and funding
of the Plant Genome Initiative, genetic advances will
continue at a breakneck pace. Cambridge Healthtech
Institute's conference, Impact of Molecular Biology on
Crop Production, is designed to bring world-class
researchers together to discuss the status of the field of
crop genomics, looking back to where it has been, and
looking forward to the next generation of genetically
altered crops to improve production at home and to compete
globally.
